A thoughtful look at disability. These are poems worth returning to, lines that felt so true to my own experiences with chronic illness while offering me a whole other window. Love what Hladíková did with shape & line breaks, added to the wavelike motion of several poems, while imbuing each with such distinct rhythm and presence on the page.

This collection is SO beautiful. I almost always read poetry out loud and I think that lent a lot to my positive feelings about these pieces. The language flows and fits each and every piece in this collection. There is a gorgeous, thoughtful blending of illness, the body, and nature that I found so refreshing as I read. Definitely recommend!

Must read for anyone struggling with chronic pain, physical and mental recovery/healing. The author really depicts the feeling of being trapped, betrayed, isolated, and the all consuming feeling of chronic pain, in some of the most beautiful prose I’ve read. Highly recommend if you’re experiencing loss in anyway, mobility, physicality, mentally, anything. This pays tribute to the quiet moments in bed when you realize your depression/pain/illness has won and you’re stuck for the day. Hold yourself close, you’ll try again tomorrow.
