It's just one issue, but I'll take any Locke and Key I can get. There's a wealth of bonus materials to fill out the volume, including scripts, art, and interviews. The most notable part of the interview is the revelation that Joe Hill has plotted out a new six volume story called WORLD WAR KEY that's 37 issues long.

This graphic novel has an interesting concept. The family lives in the Locke house. There is a doll house that is a reflection of the real house. The doll house was left open and something that's not supposed to get in got in. The family find themselves being hunted with no way out.
It's a nice little one-part story. Definitely worth a read of you enjoy the Locke & Key series.

I don't know, while I enjoyed this graphic it just left a lot to be desired for me. Maybe it was that I such a fan of the Locke & Key series and was looking for more of a connection or something that hinted more at the original series, I am not sure. While the story was interesting and gave a look into the keys and other things they could do there was just something about the story that I did not find as enjoyable as I thought I would. I think it might have benefitted from being a bit longer and more detailed as it seemed a bit short and rushed to me. Of course, the writing was brilliant (I mean it is Joe Hill after all) and the illustrations were beautiful so that added a lot of enjoyment to the read. I guess just overall it was lacking in terms of what I expected from a book in the Locke & Key universe. It is worth the read though.

The first third of this is a little prequel story with a previous generation of the Locke family, and the rest is an interview, a few notes from Joe writing the series and a little bit of art. It's not that interesting.
The story is two bratty little girls playing with a dollhouse. Which could have been interesting if they were MORE bratty, but eh. It's good for what it is, but it's two little girls playing with a dollhouse. It feels like a goosebumps story.

This was only okay. The artwork is beautiful, as always, but the story was lacking. The most exciting thing was to find that there will be more to come. Perhaps once the anthology of sorts is together things will be more intense and interesting.

The only reason this isn’t a five-star read is because it was just a teensy taste of the awesomeness that is the combo of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. It is enough to remind me that I loved the world they developed in Locke & Key and how much I long for more stories set there. It is enough of a story to go “Cool! Another new key!” But, at just 24 pages, it is a drop in the bucket that will leave you thirsting for more.
Should you read the original six volumes before reading this one-shot? Yup. Because this one-shot will be confusing if you skip straight to it.
