For me, I would have loved this book so much more if it was in chronological order! I wanted to love it more - hey, it's Markus Zusak!! - but it was so disjointed that my bond with the characters was continually interrupted. It had moments of brilliance and was very original.

I struggled to finish this book, but I did. This was disappointing because I really enjoyed other books by this author, but I didn't find this one as interesting. The author jumps around alot where every other chapter is a different time frame. I don't prefer to read in that style.

I hesitated to read this book since The Book Thief was one of my favorite books ever. I knew if Bridge of Clay was not as good that I'd be really irritated. If The Book Thief was 5+ stars, then Bridge of Clay was a 4.7. I had to work hard through the first 75 pages, often flipping back to sort out characters. Zusak's use of words is really beautiful, making me slow down to let them sink in. The symbolism is strong. One day when Cliff's Notes are written, I'll have to read them to see what I missed.

What I loved was getting inside a family of 5 brothers to see how each of them responded to the same sadness in such different ways. Birth order, relationships, and personalities made them walk through the sadness alone even though they were together. Then, seeing how life and maturity moved them to extend grace....

This book is brutal. I will say that the very end didn't hit quite as hard as I expected, given how absolutely devastating other parts of the book were, but this novel is more of the good quality and beauty I expect from this author. I highly recommend it, but bring the tissues.

This was a re-read for me. I can't put into words what I feel for this book, but be sure it's a masterpiece. You can read it how many times you want and every. single. time. you. will. cry. Or at least, that's what I'm doing right now.
The story is awesome, the characters are easy to love and they will stay with you after you finish the book. Everything is perfect. You should read and experience it yourself and I promise it won't be a waste of time, but bring some tissues because it's gonna hit you hard.
Clearly, one of the best books I'd ever put my hands on. I own 2 copies of this, one in Romanian and one in English. And maybe next year I will go for a third.

Please read this book. If I'd have to recommend a book for the rest of my life, Bridge of Clay is it.

Переклад чудовий, втім з самої книжки я не взяла для себе майже нічого, звичайний Зузак зі смаком попелу.

This was slow going to start, but so worth it in the end. Elegant.
