DNF.

A beautiful slow burn chronicle of a family brought together through storytelling and trauma. Zusak leaves you asking questions until the very last page and shows you the power of love. (You will cry while reading this, so if you want a happy book, leave this for another day) I was a huge fan of The Book Thief and I Am The Messenger, this book did not disappoint.

Markus Zusak has done it again. ("It" in this case translates to "pummeled my poor heart till I developed additional tear ducts to deal with all the emotions he made me feel".)

Bridge of Clay is about a broken/healed/healing rowdy family of boys. As is typical in my experience of reading Markus Zusak's books, the story isn't linear: it is a chronologically mismatched collection of memories and anecdotes from the various members of the family such that you see them broken before you learn why, see them healed before the healing begins, and see death and other misadventures far in advance. What I love most about Markus Zusak is that his stories are about "us"- the true depth, meaning, and struggle of what it is to be a completely ordinary human (which is to say, not ordinary at all).

In the interest of spoiling as little as possible, I will say only this: Bridge of Clay is the perhaps the best named book I have ever read, and like all of the Markus Zusak books I have read, it makes me want to be better.

I have read "The book thief" by Markus Zusak, and loved it very much. The formatting is kind of confusing, but I loved it. It was confusing, yet exactly like life. It was very unpredictable, and written backwards, and told from not the main character, but rather his brother. Every word, and item the book has a meaning in the story, and it's so magical, I see the meaning uncover bit by bit. The book was long, but it fit the story perfectly. Clay's life was long, unexpected, and difficult. He saw the world in a such a way, not many people do or can. He enjoyed everything he did, and lived it to the fullest. He and his brothers are close in a crazy, exotic, and so brothery way. Clay's mind is so difficult to understand, yet so easy.

Overly stylized in the most obnoxious way.
Almost like this.
But not quite.
Add in more adjectives.

See what I mean? No thanks. Gave it a go, 100 pages or so.

Thoroughly enjoyable, loved the characters and their dynamic. The blend between the parents and sons stories was really smooth and came together well.
