The story was complex and at times difficult to follow. I didn’t love it. It was deep with layers of understanding and revelation.

"He knew right then that this was the world, and all it was was a vision."

It is a 5 star by default. Not perfect, very long, but so is life. I loved the brotherhood portrayed in this masterpiece. I believe that re-reading it would be even more impactful (but i'll need a bit of distance before that happens). If you are looking for a whole life in a book, this is exactly that. Unique and bright with imagery and emotions. Love this author.

Brilliant.
Beautiful.
Breathless.
Perfect.

3.5 stars. It's no Book Thief, that's for sure! Super hard for me to get into, and confusing with the constant flip flops in timelines. I'm glad I read it and finally finished it, though.
slow-paced

Finding the style very hard to follow, not my cup of tea really. Maybe I’ll try again another time. But not for me right now.

I bought the book years ago because I loved the book thief. So thought I’d try this too, never got around to it and fell out of reading until recently.

The first 75 pages of the book were a struggle. It wasn't clear who was who, the sentences werd hard to follow (not a native speaker, but I often have no trouble reading English books) and I had no idea where the story was leading. Only when Penelope was introduced I actually wanted to keep reading. The second half of the book I really enjoyed, as you finally get to know the characters. 1 star for the first 75 pages, 4-5 stars for the rest of the book.
