I wish the story would be just a little longer, though I don't expect much at this point. Such an excellent trilogy; you don't really know what's going on, and heck, I'm still not quite sure what happened, but I just went with it as I read the story. I wish I had a daemon! Perhaps I do, though much like Mary, it would take a certain concentration to see her.

Regardless, fantastic story, and I'm looking forward to watching the show when it comes out in the future!

Ennn, deel 3.

This book is a sophisticated and complex finale to a rich and well developed page-turner of a series. It's easy to see why the story has sparked so much controversy, but it's such a worthy read for young people and adults alike.

The audiobooks were read by Pullman himself, doing the omniscient narrator (a perfect example of that narrative point of view that I'll give to my students) and a full cast of characters, all of whom were great. There was a different reader for Will in this book, and the actor's voice was quite a bit deeper than the actor's voice in The Subtle Knife. It threw me off a bit at the beginning, but I got used to it quickly enough. Just make sure you have all of them downloaded, because as soon as you finish one, you'll want to start the next ASAP.

Genuinely an incredible book. With the rest of His Dark Materials and The Locked Tomb, this constitutes my most recent addition to my reimagination of the church themed reading marathon.

I'm certain that, given the time and Attention, I could write pages and pages about this book and it's parent series, but nothing, I'm sure, that hasn't already been said. It's brilliant on so many levels. Pullman is a quiet poet, and perhaps better for it. It manages to solve tension with love like a Shakespearean comedy, and solves lack of gravity like a Shakespearean tragedy. It is tragic, in many ways, and perfect.

I've only ever been equally compelled by angels in fiction, never more. There were so many threads to follow, but I don't doubt the intense intent of having the plot of the guy who's assembling an army to kill god be secondary to a strange, imperfect little girl's. (
The selfsame little girl who did, in fact, kill god in the ways that matter [and the literal one]
)

Most every thread was tied gorgeously. This is the only kind of many-worlds book I think needs to be written. Much like post-Hunger Games apocalyptic survival YA, or most YA time travel: it's already been nailed once, further attempts should contend differently, rather than fail to imitate.

He made magic– literally, linked thought and action– in such a gorgeous way I've half a mind to say it's the best, or at least the most necessary. As children's entertainment, it's genuinely outstanding, but the same could be said for "as writing," or "as scripture for a new world."

This book was a bit of a disappointment for me. Alhough it explained all of my questions and tied up all the loose ends, it took its sweet time in doing it.
