The ideas behind this dystopian thriller are fascinating, and at first we, along with the protagonist, struggle to see what could be wrong in this apparently idyllic island community. However, the reveals come in rather all too convenient bursts and the ending is somewhat, although not entirely, unsatisfying. Having said that, the writing does pull you along, and I was blindsided a couple of times, having smugly thought I knew exactly where the plot was going.
