This is only my 3rd book by this author and I have to say I enjoy her creativity and the way she leaves just enough suspense in each book to make you non-stop think about it till your done. I've also found that once you finish the book you find yourself wanting the story to continue. This book we have the Spanish inquisition happening while kingdoms also seek "miracles" and to punish blasphemers, the oxymoron the we find always happening in this world. We have scully maid with a secret power who has been treated as less then until it can benefit her employers, a corrupt religious sector and kingdom, a man in a forced servitude to a family because of his "luck", and a competition of miracles to put everyone at risk for death if it does not please the men in charge. This book features longing, treachery, a desire for more, inequality, and so much more. I wasn't sure if I would get a happy ending, a justified ending, or an ending that would be all too realistic but I hung onto every word till I found out.

Really enjoyed. I’ve read the ninth house/hell bent, which I also liked a lot but this feels a lot different. Faster paced and less dense. Still really well done!

Once I read this was set in Spain during the Inquisition, I knew how it would end. Luzia was a strong character. In fact, all the characters were well defined. The story was kind of all over the place though.
