I have really enjoyed this series, and the first two instalments were definite 5-star reads, but this novel was a little lacking. Not in literary style, because it is impeccably written, but rather in its humour, which was not at the laugh-out-loud level of its predecessors. Still, a most engaging and beautifually paced story, with the eminently level-headed character of Doctor Thorne at its heart. I still loved this, and will be reading the rest of the series in due course.

I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed listening to the book on audible. I enjoyed the thoughts on blood vs money.

A lot of the allure of the book was seeing how it would all pan out. I could guess the ending pretty well from the first few pages, but I still found myself in suspense. There's something a tiny bit cartoonish in the characters, but that didn't diminish their appeal.

Got too many books going at once. Would like to try again.

Trollope is now one of my new favorite authors. I love his sarcastic wit and delightful irony. Here he creates more delightful characters as in The Warden and Barchester Towers. You can’t help but love Mary’s straight-no-nonsense way. Dr. Thorne’s love and devotion to raising Mary, and his determination that she will never feel as though she were less than perfect. Many more memorable characters. Such a wonderful story and fun read. Smart, witty, delightful
