Growing up my Dad always told me he loved this book, so I figured I'd give it a read. Overall I was pleasantly surprised; I'd worried that it being an old book it'd read stuffy and bland, but it was filled with humor and personality. A good read of living in the wild with a misunderstood animal. It was also neat getting glimpses of Canadian history, and even my home province of Manitoba.

In the end it didn't leave the same impression on me as it left on my Dad, but I did enjoy it.

I read this because it is on the curriculum I am teaching and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The writing is complex, has a very high vocabulary, and is so sarcastic and funny. I had to explain most of the potty jokes to the students because Mowat tells the crass jokes with such dry sophistication many of them miss it.

It was really interesting and compelling. Super timely too even though it was published in the 1960s as there was just last week an article about Idaho lawmakers passing a law to kill 90% of the states wolves.

I really enjoyed this book... I will not lie, after the amount of scientific jargon in the first chapter I was worried this book was going to be really dry. But I love how the author gets his experience across without being dry while still letting the reader know how naive he was.
