This was giving Wattpad writing immediately, from I'm not like other girls and guy being disgusting manwhore. For love of God, 488 pages, what happened to editing.

3/5 stars

This book started off strong. I liked the setting and the characters with their backstory and insecurities. I also liked that the playboy image of Zanders was literally only an image for the media and not his true self. Everything seemed like it would be a fun and typical (not using this word in a bad way) sports romance that I usually love. I could relate to Stevie and I liked that the MMC also had issues to work through instead of being the white knight that would save the day and help her.

I had a lot of fun reading about the first quarter of the book but enjoyed it less after that, especially in the second half. The reasons are :
- There were so many cringy/cheesy moments that just made me want to skim through the pages
- Zanders is definitely a men written by a women and I don't mean this in the good way. I'm not talking about if he was or wasn't realistic, but more about the writing in his POV. I can't describe it in words but something about his chapters just constantly reminded me that I was reading a book. I wasn't fully immersed in this story as I usually do with other books where I "forget" that I'm reading and follow the characters and their lives through the words on the page. There was constantly a part of my brain that knew nothing in this book was real if that makes sense?
- I'm picky with the smut in books and this didn't made the cut. Granted, it is rare that I love smut in books (I still do enjoy most of them even if I don't love it) so this book doesn't loose too many points for this. I skimmed through most sexy scenes.
- The third act break up dragged on a little too long and if they would just sit down and TALK, everything would have been resolved fairly quickly.
Spoiler The last scene at the Stanley Cup finals where he looks for her and she tries to get to him really wasn't necessary. It added a few chapters for absolutely no reason.

I will read The Right Move because I know it's most readers favorite and I do want to see how Indy and Ryan get together!

*****

Would I recommend this to others? Meh. I wouldn't stop anyone from reading it but it's far in my list of romance I would recommend.
Would I reread this? No
Do I regret reading this? No
Is this book forgettable? Yes

I knew I was going to love Zee, right after I stopped hating him, but I was not expecting to love him as much as I do! This was such a good read! I loved all the growth, all the situations with loved ones and it hurt how relevant it all was to my own life, but watching it all play out was so so good! I was honestly expecting a lot more spice as the main plot, but it wasn’t and I’m glad to say it was better! Excited to dive into the next book.

Thoughts: β€˜Mile High’ is book #1 of the Windy City Series! I really enjoyed this hockey romance book. I really liked the FMC & MMC, and their characters were written very well. I enjoyed the body image part of the story and how supportive and loving the MMC was. However, I did feel the first half dragged, and the book could have been shorter. If you love forced proximity, hockey romance, and reformed playboy, you will love this book!

Synopsis: ZANDERS - Chicago hockey isn’t complete without me - everyone’s favourite player to hate. I know my role, and I play it well. In fact, I thoroughly enjoy spending the majority of my game time in the penalty box before leaving the arena with a new girl on my arm each night. What I don’t like is the new flight attendant on our team’s private plane. She works for me, not the other way around. But I’ll be sure to remind her of that, and I can guarantee, by the end of the season, she’ll be begging to quit her job. But every road trip blurs the lines, and I can’t quite figure out if I keep pushing that flight attendant call button in order to push her buttons, or if it’s more than that.
STEVIE -  I’ve been a flight attendant for years. I thought I’d seen it all, but when my new job lands me onboard working for the most egotistical and self-righteous diva in the NHL, I start to second guess everything. Including the promise I made to myself of never hooking up with an athlete again . . . no matter how annoyingly tempting he may be. Evan Zanders is unfiltered, unapologetic, and too attractive for his own good. He loves his image, but I hate everything about it. Everything but him.

Please check trigger warning before reading this book.
