I love the way Neil can make a compelling story out of lore. Really enjoyed this.

Neil Gaiman once again blows me out of the water. None of the myths he included in his anthology were new to me, but he presented the characters and gods in a new light that makes them feel realistic and relatable. I'm a huge fan of Fenrir/Fenris wolf (I actually have two tattoos of him) and I've always personally seen him as a tragic character, which is how Neil portrayed him as well. It's refreshing to have Gods and Goddesses with personality and depth. I have a feeling I will re-read this over and over.

Retelling of Norse myths, and I guess because of what fragments survive it's very male-oriented. Neil Gaiman captures the dark, earthy tones of the traditional tales and also captures some humor especially in the dialogue. I will admit I only read this after I went to hear Gaiman speak. He read The Master Builder (from this anthology) out loud and it was superb. I actually enjoyed hearing this being read out loud more than I enjoyed reading it myself. I would recommend the audiobook for sure even though I haven't heard it.

Neil Gaiman's writing is so ripe with fantastical elements and intriguing storytelling, it's easy to fall into the story and forget all of everything. He writes of the Norse gods which such simplicity yet detail it'll stay with me for life.
I had heard the audio book before, read by none other than Neil Gaiman himself, but the physical copy was just as wonderful to get through.
