I give this one a 5.

Historical fiction that weaves together a contemporary story set during COVID with interlinked stories of two girls who lived during the Ukrainian famine of the 1930s. This story kept you guessing as to how the stories would ultimately unfold and led to a satisfying twist near the end. I found the use of COVID isolation as a means to draw a connection to a historical event to be especially effective. A fantastic read for historical fiction buffs, and perhaps even a good pick for those who are unsure of or just dipping their toes into historical fiction given the contemporary element. I gave this one a 4. -SKB
