Absolutely wrecked. I already had a soft spot for Haymitch; this turned me to mush.
so so sad to read it knowing how it would all end for him, another 25 years to be free

Ok so I re-read all three of the original Hunger Games books prior to diving into Sunrise on the Reaping. While I understand some of the concerns about the sprinkling of cameos and then not fully tying in to older Haymitch - I think people can sometimes forget that people change over time. He went through an event that can only be described as infinite life altering trauma. The boy of his teens won’t be the same as his late 30’s / early 40’s. I thought this was a fitting prequel that gave insight into people from the past and the future. I am curious about the parallel that Snow & Haymitch have when it comes to women they fall in love with for being descendants of Covey.
