Jammer.

(3.5 stars) This wasn’t very memorable to me but it did have some interesting anecdotes about how Murakami became a writer and why he runs. I now know a lot more about running but I don’t think I’ll ever apply it. A weird book to be introduced to Murakami but I’m interested in reading his more popular novels.

This book can be best summed up by Dory: “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming”

That’s it! I’m going for a run.

Update, Dec. 2019: reread this on a flight since it's pretty short and I was in a Murakami mood. Previous rating and review still stand, although there's a now arguably bittersweet section about losing one's vitality and "toxins" creeping in, leading to losing one's edge as a writer, which in the 15 years since he wrote this, sadly has started creeping in, I think.

More for Murakami-fanatics or runners who like to read than the average reader.

This book encapsulates the feeling only runners know but that is hard to put into words. The explanation of the complicated dichotomy of pain and life-altering bliss that comes from running feels perfectly intertwined with Murakami’s natural wit and humbleness. I really enjoyed the read and feel inspired to push myself harder at the sport
