I really enjoyed this book. As with all books I read about running it reminded me how much I love running. It was extremely honest and relatable especially because I am both a runner and a writer as this author is. So I was able to learn things not only about running but about writing too and about how to balance these things and life at once (though it was mostly about running). I know every runner can relate and would probably enjoy reading this book. Those who aren’t runners will also find so much to connect to and learn from in this book because while the subject itself is running, the lessons and reflections are about life. Murakami put into words really “what I talk about when I talk about running.” It’s an extremely fitting title.

Absolute maniac

I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed this book if I weren’t a runner and a writer; it would seem overly metaphorical. But I am a runner and a writer, so I liked it.

It was a bit boring

This book was a delight to read. As a runner, I could relate to so many of the anecdotes he shared. The things Murakami loves and values about running are similar to the things I love and value about the running lifestyle. He has an interesting style and sense of humor..will be adding some of his novels to my "to read" list.

Audiobook

Slightly insightful but mostly inner rambling

A gentle memoir/musings about Murakami’s philosophies around running, writing and life.

After reading his books I was astonished to find out that he’s a normal person who does normal things like running and working.

Running:
  • Rock
  • Beggars banquet
  • Red hot chili peppers
  • Gorrillaz
  • Beck
  • Creedence Clearwater revival
  • The Beach boys

Cycling:
  • 18 til I die

Interesting book about running and writing. It’s a bit of an autobiography where he discusses his past races and a bit around his writing method. Probably interesting for other writers. The running stuff was ok, it’s impressive he’s run so many marathons, and in good times too.
hopeful lighthearted reflective medium-paced

An abstract type of book grounded in the themes of running, writing and ageing. It was easy to dip in and out of. As a runner training for a marathon, where running and training take up a lot of my brain space, this book gave me a generous insight into another runners mind & brain. The stories were light and engaging, and at times very relatable. It very much felt like chatting to a fellow runner, and one whose runs are quite inspirational. I would recommend to fellow runners who aren’t looking for a serious book, and are happy to read the musings of a fellow runner.
