She is an icon. And a beast of an activist which I didn’t realize how much until listening to this. I liked learning about allllll the things she championed, from starting the wta and the March towards equal pay. It was a bit long and I had it on 2.0. She has lead for a long time so I guess that’s why it was so long!

Audiobook narrated by BJK herself. Like a lot of memoirs, the early chapters about her childhood were pretty boring. And even the stuff about some of her biggest matches wasn’t that interesting. Where her passion shined through was when she started reflecting on her activism, her mental/weight/identity struggles, and eventually her legacy. There are several moments in the back half of the audiobook where you can hear how choked up she gets. I am glad they went with those takes; they add so much to underscoring what she’s accomplished for women everywhere.

I know nothing about tennis but I grew up during the peak BJK years and have always found her to be a interesting figure. This book made me appreciate her so much more. I knew she had been a trailblazer but, since I don't know tennis, had no idea just how much she had worked to change things. She's really incredible; it's amazing how much she got done.
As a non-tennis person there are bits that are for the tennis fans but it's not overwhelming and you get the gist without understanding tennis scoring.
The audio is narrated by her, which is great because it would be hard to hear her story without her distinctive voice. She definitely not a professional reader but does a fine job and it was clear which parts of her story were the hardest for her to talk about. So glad I read this one.

I really enjoyed listening to Billie Jean King read this book - I actually think that may have made me add an extra star. I loved hearing the passion and emotion in her voice. I always knew she was a great tennis player and spokesperson for equality, but I had no idea how influential of a business person and creator of tennis as we know it today. She does not shy away from her failings as well as her successes and makes her all the more impressive in my eyes.

Wow! So good. So inspiring. Can’t recommend enough. She reads the audio version so I recommend that over a hard copy book.
