I ended up really enjoying this even though I felt that the introduction of the apocalyptic material (kind of a document dump) was a little clumsy. Harris is so good with his characters that I kept with the story, happily. There are laugh out loud funny parts and a sure, driving narrative that kept surprising. And the ending broke my heart but was absolutely spot on. I'll be thinking about first and second sleep for a long time.
