Look, I should hate this book. I read the first three quarters finding it really long and in need of some editing, and then I read the last quarters - the first book did this to me too. The last quarter is five stars for me. I loved it!
I’m not gonna put this in spoilers because I think it might be useful for some who haven’t read the book yet, the rape depicted in this book are far too graphic me to feel comfortable. A lot of warning should be taken before reading this. I also think it strayed a little bit into victim shaming, and the ableism is a little bit uncomfortable for my liking.
A good book, but you need to know what you’re getting into.

4...I do enjoy these novels more as an audio, because man, are they LENGTHY...and at some points a TAD boring, but I still have become totally immersed in this series...THOUGH I will have to take a break here and there...sappy, soap opera...can only handle so much...

Dragonfly in Amber absorbed me and left me forgetting how long this book truly is at 900+ pages. The story was full of details regarding the tension in Scotland along with the risks that Claire and Jaime take to try and prevent the horrible uprising that was brewing in Scotland. I really felt the stress of the time.

This wonderfully laid out story shows us the brutality of the society, the nitty gritty of grime due to the lack of hygiene and knowledge. This all utterly struck me. I was also awed by some events that occurred which I completely did not anticipate.

I didn't love this one as much as the first book, but that had a lot to do with my irritation with the 1960's timeline. I really don't want to read anything about when Claire is not with Jamie. The Paris location just didn't give me the feelings that Scotland does. This book had so many depressing issues, but it is still beautiful.

I love Jamie Fraser!!!
