I read this book when I was about 12-13 years old. I'm currently 19, and in all these years I haven't read a book that has made me cry like Dewey did. I loved that goddamn cat.
For a book about a cat, the cat isn't in the book that much.

I really loved this book because of course it was about a cat. But more than the great story was the fact that the writer isn't a traditional author and still she wrote the book, with help, but she wrote it very well.
My only slight complaint was that reading about how great Dewey was in every single chapter did get a bit boring at times, but with that said I still loved it.

Rating this highly because of how much I loved the cat, Dewey and the library setting. 😿
Wow, am I in the minority with this one. I like cats, I like libraries, and I've even known a library cat or two. I didn't expect to rave about this book quite as much as many others have done, but I also didn't expect to think so very little of it.
A few cute anecdotes notwithstanding, there is just nothing special about this book. Any pet owner could write as much (and many would do it markedly better). The tone of the author was grating to me, and her experiences were not nearly as interesting as she seemed to think they were. At its core, this is a not uncommon tale with startlingly inflated publicity.

Cats and books, has there ever been a better combination? There's a reason so many people traveled from all over the world to see Dewey the cat and after reading this book you'll understand why.
I loved it! Dewey touched my heart too. Thank you Vicki. Thank you for reminding me of Dewey. I was with one of the families who crossed the country to see Dewey. I still remember him. He helped me beyond belief. Thank you Dewey!
I was not as impressed as I thought I would be with this book. I am a huge cat lover- but the story was not moving me.
