Full of Rohr’s usual compelling insights. Thoughtful way to journey through Advent. A bit disjointed (since it wasn’t originally meant as a book), but still worth the read.

I’ve not spent a great deal of time with Richard Rohr, but what I do know of his spirituality and his writing I already appreciate. This book of reflections for Advent, that accompany scripture, provided a thoughtful framework to engage this holy season. I will look forward to re-visiting in future years.

I greatly enjoy Rohr's writing but found this a bit disjointed and at 80 pages, barely a book. I listened to it on Audible and definitely had some profound takeaways (the three Ps: power, prestige and possessions; his interpretation of the temptations of Christ---the need for control and importance, effectiveness/productivity, superiority). But I wonder if they were excerpt from different talks and while I understand his emphasis on Christ rather than the imagery of Christmas, it could be listened to at any time of year. I thought it was going to be weekly or daily essays leading up to Christmas.

I’m a fan of Rohr, and enjoyed going through these short daily meditations this Advent. They weren’t incredibly dense or extensive, but they gave me new things to meditate on each day, and I found them beautiful and thought provoking.

“Henceforth humanity has the right to know that it is good to be human, good to live on this earth, good to have a body, because God in Jesus chose and said ‘yes’ to our humanity.”
Happy Christmas, friends.
