Alternate ending to the Frog Prince fairy tale. Princess tosses frog to corner of room, he does not transform into a human. Princess is a spoiled brat, her own father acknowledges this and equips the frog to find a princess deserving of his love. He finds his princess sleeping in a quiet castle (a la Sleeping Beauty, frog style), she awakens, they marry and live happily ever after. Illustrations are rich with color, dark shadows. No mention of Iron Henry.

Classic Galdone fairy tale treatment of The Frog Prince. Detailed and colorful illustrations. Princess tosses the frog against the wall, instigating his transformation into a prince. Iron Henry mentioned at end.

I love the darkness of Binette Schroeder's illustrations. Perfect for a Grimm story.

The ending is just one giant eye roll. If they're rich, who cares what they looked like.

Um...Ew.

I can't like this story. Sorry, not sorry. The Princess seems no more than 12. I mean, she goes out to the garden to play with her ball, whines and cries when she loses it, makes an impossible promise to a weird-ass stranger because she wants this toy back so badly, then promptly high tails it out of there when she gets the ball back. I cannot fault her for that. Self preservation, girl!

But then she is made to keep this promise by her...father? Or some warped sense of duty/honor? Is coerced into kissing a frog, who then declares that they shall marry because...why not?

This poor girl. I can't help but feel that the ball was not worth it.

Not my favorite story, but this version of the book is beautiful.

This is one of those books that I picked up and bought for the art of it. This is a beautiful edition. I love the illustrations, the transparent pages, layering and stylistic detail. I did like this story with the more original narrative followed here rather than the romanticized version where a kiss turns the frog to a prince, but this still isn't one of my favourite fairytales. I found the princess bratty and spoiled, though the idea of the frog turning into a prince when she finally stands up for herself is better than the kissing route, despite the violence of throwing him against a wall. To be honest the frog prince and princess were both unlikable, but I love this edition just as a collector's piece.
