I am a huge fan of this duo's work at anytime. Maybe it's because I am now a grandparent, but I tend to love these books that highlight the special connection between generations. The relationship between these two characters, the boy and his grandmother, is what this book is all about. I love the symbolic representation of them. So much is revealed in Guridi's abstract art about who they are. What strikes me as profound is that while the boy heads off to the sea to bring it back to his grandmother, this heading off and achieving more for themselves than we could, is what we as parents and grandparents want for our progeny.

No... nothing here for me. Yes there is a a sentimental message in it, but we lost it in the story and I never really care. The illustration have a unique style which is good, but that style didn't please me, really not, and I think it may have been an important point of me disliking this book. Sorry...

A spare, elegant little story of a boy who lives with his aging, now ailing, great grandmother, and his quest to bring the sea to her, since she has never been able to go to the sea.

Reading this as an adult brings moments of horror: why is Ali traveling alone! Stay away from the edge! But I think, for a child, that it would be truly marvelous, Ali's trip a hero's journey undertaken out of his deep, abiding love for the great grandmother with whom he lives.

A Drop of the Sea is, at its heart, a story about love, and also about heroic quests, undertaken and won.

For such a small book, this had a lot of emotion in it! About a young boy who wants nothing other than to help make his grandmothers dream come true. Filled with beautiful script, and adorable illustrations. This book is sure to be a favorite at story time!

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book and exchange for an honest review. I really appreciate it.

Tearjerker alert! But in the best way. Ali’s worried about his great grandmother. She is so old and frail. He asks if all of her dreams came true. When she says all but one, Ali is determined to help make that dream a reality. Such a lovely and heart warming story. It’s simple in the best way possible. Plus the illustrations….amazing and they match so well to the story. The illustration of great-grandmother just invokes an every grandma feel that makes me miss mine soooooo much. A wonderful story that hopefully earns lots of awards.
