I was already a huge fan of the One Bad Mother podcast (hosted by the two authors), which portrays parenthood in such a realistic, authentic and hilarious way! And this book reflects the podcasts' content (but if you're already a fan, it's also like a bonus episode). This book is the perfect gift for new parents, whether they're waiting for the baby/kid to arrive (pregnancy or adoption) or in the first year of parenthood. Very short text (and they managed to make it hilarious! I laughed in the metro) and beautiful imagery. Loved it!
You really are doing a great job. You got up today and did your thing. Good job!
It's basically everything I love about the One Bad Mother podcast in book form: Funny, relatable, and affirming. Every parent needs to hear you're doing a good job, especially when it feels like you're totally effing up with your kid(s).
I am a fan of the One Bad Mother podcast but hadn't seen the need to pick up the book. Then I saw it at the library and thought "why not" - and I'm so glad I did! I find a lot of parenting books off-key - either saccharine or somehow irritating - but this one was wonderful. Not only is it extremely positive, it also manages to stay surprisingly realistic, wonderfully inclusive, and actually funny!
I felt like it was mostly written for moms, but I could still identify with a lot of the content. I laughed a few times and thought, "Finally somebody said that!" a few times throughout.
My favorite part: You went out for milk... and came back afterwards.
You could have used the opportunity to run away and start a new life! But you didn't! You came back.
GOOD JOB!
ENJOY YOUR MILK.

Laughed till I cried. Great book. Just the perspective I needed.
I bought this in Kindle, because I figured I didn't need another hard cover in my house. I do wish I could take a peek at that version, though. I bet some of the pages would be great to tear out and stick on a bulletin board or something to remind yourself that it's OK and you're doing a great job.
I wish there had been more to this book - especially beyond the toddler years! I'm not sure it was worth the cost of the book, but I was happy to spend some money in support of two of my favorite podcast hosts.

Funny and affirming, but like everything else that has people talking about parenting it makes me stressed out about the years ahead.
