I've had this for a while now, ever since [a:Jennifer Estep|580315|Jennifer Estep|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1264385515p2/580315.jpg] mentioned in a newsletter/blog post that she had read it or its subsequent book and enjoyed it. Having trouble sleeping means that I wind up reading during the awake times, and I grabbed this one after being inspired to read the author in a Featured Author Challenge in a group I am in.

Since this is listed as a prequel short story, I went in knowing it would be brief. However, the author sidestepped my chief complaint about novellas or short stories, because this book had a logical and fulfilling plot! When I finished it, my appetite for more of these characters was whetted, but I didn't feel cheated that this wasn't the full story. We had a happily ever after, but it also set the stage for the subsequent books in the series. Some reviews stated that the book was too wordy, but I have to disagree. The wordiness of the book lent to my satisfaction because we were able to connect better with the characters. All in all, it was an enjoyable way for me to spend an hour or so, and I would go back and finish the series out, based on this introduction!

Honestly, I was expecting this story to be awful based on other reviews I read. But I thought it was well written and well formatted. It did exactly what it was supposed to do… whet my appetite for the upcoming series.

I’ve gotta say, this was the best short story I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. And even though it was short (8 chapters), I felt like I knew the main characters well enough. So much so, I felt what they felt... my emotions were everywhere just like theirs were. Make sure to have the Kleenex handy! Especially for chapter 7.

Overall, it was a truly sweet and moving story. The shortness of it worked well for me, meaning I can get the ‘feel good’ mojo from it quickly in the future. Always a plus since I read so slow.

It was a very short story. If you have a couple hours to blow and this book is free, then go for it. Otherwise do not waste your time.

This book was really short, and didn't really make a lot of sense. I never got a real feeling for any of the characters, and the tornado wasn't really exciting.
Good thing I got it for free...
