This was a great read. Child hood friends to lovers. One working for the family brewery and the other a high skilled busy lawyer.  When our female MC (the lawyer) decided she’s too stressed and to take a leave from work she goes to the hometown of our male MC. To keep herself occupied she volunteers to help revamp the bookshop below where she is staying.

This sees the two MC’s relationship change and develop. New friendships spawn. issues with work overcome and more.

A lovely diverse cast of characters with several Korean and Asian American characters I loved the rep throughout this.  With it even touching on anxiety, panic attacks and taking medication for anxiety which in the past especially in a lovey dovey romance has been seen as taboo was amazing

I really enjoyed this second chance friends to lovers romance, where the big city lawyer Lizzie goes to the small town and realizes she is in love with her lifelong best friend Jack… and then has to figure out what she wants out of life and what will make her happy. Lizzie also has serious anxiety issues so take that as a content warning - although I loved seeing that mental health representation.

Booked On A Feeling by Jayci Lee is such a great rom com! I loved the main characters from the first page and friends to lovers is my all time favorite trope. Lizzy and Jack are loveable characters with interesting personal storylines. The second they introduced Weldon and the bookstore, I was sold! This is a fave star sweet romance full of all the things that make my heart smile.

I was given an ARC of this book by the publisher on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, so here goes!

I enjoyed this book! It didn’t move very quickly, most of the time, for me but that was okay because there were so many components to the story I enjoyed. I loved the bookstore(s), I loved the side characters, I loved the character growth, and the desire not only to be a happier and more fulfilled person individually, but also to grow within their relationship. I enjoyed the friends to lovers trope and the addition of the bakery. Something’s I didn’t care for as much were how repetitive the main characters were about the length of their friendship, Lizzie’s rather toddler-ish immediate reactions to things, and Jacks absolute fascination with her (it was just a bit over the top at times for me). But this was a sweet, happy, and lovely  summer read for me. Brava!

This book came out of nowhere and stole my heart.

Lizzy, a high-strung lawyer from the city, finds herself overwhelmed with anxiety and needing some space to regain her footing with her life. So what is the best cure for this predicament? Obviously, it is moving to a small town (Yes, all of the cute small town vibes are present in this story) for 3 weeks. It also doesn't hurt that her hot childhood best friend, Jack - who has been harboring a crush on her their entire lives, also lives in this town. Oh, and did I mention that the primary setting of this book is in a small-town bookstore? I mean...

The first three chapters were rather slow story-building that was hard for me to engage with and feel invested in. However, once the story got going, I could not step away from it.

This is the kind of wonderful rom-com that has you smiling like a giddy little weirdo the entire time you read the story and for a good long while afterwards.

Not only was this book ADORABLE, but it was also laugh-out-loud funny. People definitely gave me funny looks while I grinned and laughed along with the audiobook while walking around the city and sitting in the coffee shop I haunt. No regrets here.

While I tend to prefer for dual perspective books to have two narrators for audiobooks, the narrator did a great job making it clear when a perspective changed without the reader feeling disoriented when perspectives changed. Definitely recommend the audiobook for this one.

What are you still doing here? Go read this book.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Cindy Kay, via NetGalley. An advanced reader's copy of this audiobook was provided to me via NetGalley by Dreamscape Media in exchange for an honest review.

Booked on a Feeling is a friends to lovers focused on Lizzy and Jack, two Korean-Americans who have been best friends for twenty years. Jack has loved Lizzy since they were 10. After Lizzy needs to take some time off from her anxiety inducing career, she goes to Jack's hometown to spend some time relaxing with him. Which obviously leads to their friendship taking a turn towards love.

Both of these characters were lovely - Jack is kind, caring, but painfully unsure of himself. He constantly feels like he's not good enough for those he loves, including Lizzy. Lizzy is a high-achieving lawyer whose anxiety leads to panic attacks. She's also unsure of herself, she's been following her mom's chosen path for her life and it's put her in a bad place mentally. They both had depth and easy to connect to feelings as individuals and it was easy to see why they were falling for each other.

I love a friends to lovers if it's done right and this one was fine. My main struggle was that I couldn't even say "these two are miscommunicating" because they just weren't communicating! The book was all kissing and then internal dialogue. I enjoyed it, but I also kept wondering when things were going to pick up. It's a slow burn for sure and not a lot of spice (totally fine, but always something I try to note in reviews). There was a lot of talk of sexual tension and talk about each other in their internal dialogues, but a lot of the action was fade to black.

I struggled with an overall rating - I think I'd go a 3. It was cute, but it's not really leaving me with much to stand out and remember. I could totally see how it could be someone else's type of romance though! It's just not quite what I love in mine.

Things I liked: the very realistic nature of Lizzy's anxiety; the bookstore plot lines - I literally want to revamp a small bookstore after this; the friendship and obvious affection between the two of them; Lizzy's arrival in Jack's town; and the family connection that Jack's family had. I actually wish there'd been a little more about that - his family seemed so close and I loved the contrast between them and Lizzy's family.

Things I didn't care for: the lack of communication - I just kept begging them to talk to each other about their feelings; the excess kissing, but fade to black action just wasn't really my vibe; and Lizzy's relationship with her mom. I had a lot of background questions - like where did Lizzy live after her parents moved back to Korea? How did Jack and Lizzy meet? Just a few more details would have been appreciated.

All in all it was a cute, quick read but I'm not sure it'll stick with me. Again, I think this is a great read for the right audience. If you like friends to lovers, slow burns, and kissing books, this one is for you.

Thanks to Net Galley, St. Martin's Press, and Jayci Lee for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
