RE-READ 2016 - Definitely my favorite of the series. I enjoyed it a lot more this time. I was so sad when it ended.
The best of a sometimes terrible trilogy, probably the only book worth buying out of the lot.

Once I started, I "needed" to finish the series and find out what happened, but it took me so long to finish this one. It just seemed to drag on. The excitement and drama just wasn't that exciting or shocking, the sex scenes definitely lost their novelty, and overall I felt like she just packed way too much into this one book. (Did it really need to be almost 600 pages?!)
Finished trilogy in short order- about four days for all three novels. Worth the money I spent on them, and I rarely spend that much on e-books!
James is a new writer, and some have dissed her for her new-ness. Her novice does not detract from what is a good story.

Honestly, I can't say I was a fan of this book. That's all for now. I'm going to bed now that I've been bored to sleep. I will write my review of why I feel this way soon.

Jeez. I took me far too long to finish this book and actually I did it just because I had decided to read them all.
First thing first. It starts off on their honeymoon, they're in France. Nice and romantic. A couple of pages later you get to know that they've known each other for three months. And that is really not possible and I paraphrase Elsa (Frozen): "You can't marry a man you just met". Well, sure you can, but with everything that's happened through book 1 and 2, it's really not possible that only three months would have past by.
And the rest of the book is quite predictable. There's way too much action in a very short time, Christian is very adolescent and shifty and overreacts a lot, Ana totally lacks every ounce of risk awareness, people turn into psychos and, very predictable, Leila and Mrs Robinson turns up and Ana gets pregnant.
The positive sides, that I actually didn't predict, includes Ana admitting she likes "kinky fuckery" and playing and they actually end up exploring her limits. I actually like their BDSM dynamic, but couldn't help giggling when C tells Ana she's "topping from the bottom" when she initiate playtime and text him "I await my instructions Sir". I wouldn't agree with that definition of "topping from the bottom".
I would say that Christian overreacting and, among other things, deciding type of birth for their second child, is really problematic though and my stomach knots a couple of times during the book when I find Christian limiting Ana's independence.
In total I'd say that sure, the book, or even the trilogy is worth reading, but please realise that it is fiction. The BDSM dynamic and scenes are often hot and sexy and might be a great inspiration in your own life (and Doms, please don't think that you lack fantasy if you do something that Christian do to Ana, we all need inspiration and this is inspiration). The rest of the book, and the trilogy is more of a Harlequin detective story.
And yes, E.L. James is clearly inspired by both The Twilight Saga and the movie Secretary (or perhaps the novels Secretary is based on) and I believe most good, and great, authors write stories where it's quite clear where they got their inspiration (see "The Graveyard Book" by Gaiman for example).
So... All in all it gets three stars.

Yeah, I had to make myself finish it. Take it or leave it.
