This book shows some of the worst of elitism, racism, religious fanaticism. And indifference. But the focus seems to always on what terrible things this tribe did to that one, what was done in revenge (ensuring peace is never attained, progress completely stalled), while the rich mostly stay above the fray. And if that doesn’t hit hard in 2024 idk what will.
I really can’t get too into my thoughts on the last idk 100 or so pages, because I don’t like having to mark my reviews as spoilers bc mostly people reading reviews haven’t read it yet. But the major players all know of each other now; the king, Dara, Ali, Nahri, Muntadhir, Kaveh, Manizheh. And far too few are focusing on what is actually wrong and instead choosing sides based on - you guessed it - centuries old grievances. I just want to shake them all. Violently.
There have been times I’ve been on everyone’s side respectively, and times I’ve blamed them and their respective people for the whole mess. I’ve cheered for them and condemned them. But above it all I have just a few I really want to see come through. Definitely the mark of a talented writer. And the sadness and terror and despair I’ve felt for Dara… whether or not he continues to bring it on himself…

in this part, we see more development of the crew that would happen on the main royal family of daevabad but the plot is so repetitive, and without so much of a plot twist and so much detail goes into the stories that it kind of gets boring and there aren't many new characters to keep the story interesting however, it was still beautiful and like the details were not excessive per se especially if you want to have a beautiful story that would later on be the consequences in the third book
