"Shame is a way of life here. It's stocked in the vending machines, stuck like gum under the desks, spoken in the morning devotionals. She knows now that there's a bit of it in her."
•
After I vowed to stop picking up YA books because I had a hard time connecting with the characters, it took me a long time to finally pick up IKSW. I'm so glad I finally got around to it! McQuiston flawlessly captures the experiences of being queer in a tight knit religious group (right down to the evasion of legal consequences). With the added layer of mystery of Shara's disappearance, this book will keep you coming back to the very end. All of this is wrapped up in a beautiful cover 😍

The story is good, but I can’t with the character Shara wheeler. Loved pretty much all the other characters, mostly.
