Another great Tracy Crosswhite book. I love this character, as I love all of the characters in the book series. The book is easy to read, but never boring. I will continue to read the books in this series.

I do love this series! The characters are great and the storylines are different. This book starts off with a hit and run killing a 12 year old boy but it twists and turns and becomes so much more. I always look forward to the next Tracey Crosswhite book.. i hope we don't have to wait too long for book 6..! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Thomas and Mercer for a copy of this book to read and review

“If you go in thinking you’re going to win, you’ll be disappointed if you lose. So just go in to the competition with the attitude that you’re going to compete, which is all you can control anyway.”

Close To Home is book number five of the Tracy Crosswhite series and this time around we get a little something different. This sequel has an almost legal thriller feel for most of the book, which kind of came as a surprise. The pace was considerably slower too during the majority of the plot, and as a consequence it took me longer than usual to actually finish Close To Home. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad read and I liked how the story hit home on a personal level for the main characters. There is a lot of focus on Del this time around, and we see a significant development in Tracy's private life as well. Storywise, there are two different cases involved: the drug overdose of Del's niece with a lot of focus on addiction in general, and the hit-and-run of a minor with the Navy involvement. Both cases and topics are tough, that's for sure... I do have to say that I think that part of the problem with the pace might have had to do with the fact that there is a lot of focus on and repetition of drug abuse and addiction; while important, it did distract from the case. It was almost like the drugs element took over the story in points? Anyhow, I still mostly enjoyed it and I will be looking forward to the next one. I do hope we will see less legal and more detective thriller next time around...

If they cut out the first half the book, this would be much less boring.

I love reading Robert Dugoni because his stories are based around Seattle, which means he writes about places I've been. I appreciate his Tracy Crosswhite Detective series because it ties multiple storylines together. Usually in a rather complicated solving crimes way. This one was sad: focused on teen drug addiction and overdose, as well as a killing of a young boy. It was quite obvious that it is written by a white person just passed the year of 2020, BLM, and police violence. Some of the dialogue was too corny (white man writing for a young black boy) but the story was difficult and had somewhat of a happy (predictable) but satisfying ending.

4.5/5.

I really enjoyed this one. It kept me guessing until the very end and I like how the two story lines ended up becoming interconnected. Can't wait to see what happens in the next one.
