The Time Machine bu H.G. Wells had been on my Libby app TBR for quite some time. (Fun Fact: I named my Libby app TBR pile The Blob because "Nothing can stop it Doctor!" and it's out of control)
I've seen this movie a couple of times since I'm always into a good (or bad) sci-fi or fantasy movie. It was pretty close to the source generally.
The Time Traveler has had a dinner with some of his colleagues at the college, including The Narrator. He shows them his time machine prototype and how he has already built a real time machine. Of course, there is a great discussion of how it's impossible to travel time. Alas, The Time Traveler tells them to meet him here in several days and he will have a great time adventure to share.
Several days later an even larger party of dinner guests arrives and waits for their host who shows up late, bedraggled, and missing his shoes. He tells them a tale of a future races, the Eloi who are a peaceful race lacking all curiosity and intelligence and the Morlocks a violent and hungry species. The Time Traveler has to navigate the delicate balance of the future of Earth, and not get killed in the meantime.
Honestly I wasn't expecting to enjoy the book as much as the movie, but I think I enjoyed both of them equally. The book doesn't have the holographic librarian or the original love interest at the intro. Weena is still around though she is definately a different type of character.

If this were written today it would be arguably garbage. However it is interesting to see the bleak view Wells had of the potential future of earth. His racism (or his character's racism?) comes through in obvious ways but also seems to be part of a belief that humanity is trending toward animalistic oblivion.
At least it was short... and mildly entertaining. I want to give it a two but, like I, Robot, it was good for its time and earns some credit for being first.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a science fiction novel, it described things such as why time constitutes a fourth dimension in addition to the three spatial ones, details about a pedestal of the Sphinx statue made of some pink metal that having a green oxide; the time machine is described as being made of materials such as quartz, nickel and ivory. After leaving the year 802 701, the Time Traveler ventures even further into the future where there are noticeable changes in the climate, astronomy and biology.
His impression of societal structure in the year 802 701 especially interests me because it changes as various events occur.

A story that could have been interesting, but instead felt like a guy mansplaining what the future looks like and his self-centered experience in the future. The characters were superficial and not well defined. The different races of people in the future were vague. Even though this is a classic, it fell extremely short for me.
So good!! I love this book! It’s timeless (heh heh). It’s also one of those books/one of the only books that my dad read as a kid (born 1955 he has never been a reader- dyslexic) so it was so cool to be able to geek out about it and talk in depth about it with him! I also can’t believe it was written in 1895!!! It’s an exciting read and, like I said, it’s timeless. Easy to read, not easy to put down!
