“But you are wrong to say that we cannot move about in Time. For instance, if I am recalling an incident very vividly I go back to the instant of its occurrence: I become absent-minded, as you say. I jump back for a moment. Of course we have no means of staying back for any length of Time, any more than a savage or an animal has of staying six feet above the ground. But a civilized man is better off than the savage in this respect. He can go up against gravitation in a balloon, and why should he not hope that ultimately he may be able to stop or accelerate his drift along the Time-Dimension, or even turn about and travel the other way?”

The adventure experienced by the Time Traveller, the lens through which the protagonist sees it, does not age well. (Maybe this paradoxically shows how much time changes attitudes and ideologies as much as the physical landscape of the world.) But the philosophical musings on the progress of human nature and civilization, the writing of H.G. Wells, and the science itself are absolutely worth the time. I really enjoyed it as a whole. 3.25 stars.

Surprised how well this book's scientific ideas hold up even 130 years later. Genuinely still a unique and interesting take on what is now a well known trope, despite being the first of its kind!

quite enjoyable if i do say so myself

It's much better than War of the worlds, lol

I've always been a sucker for time travel movies, tv shows and any kind of media. After reading this i can i'm slightly disapointed. The way the story is narrated (first person POV) is not that appealing. The writing style from H.G. Wells' century is just not for me xd. The description of places, creatures and feelings are way superb than other couple of classics i've read. My favourite part is the ending (which i won't talk about to avoid spoilers). It's not a bad story, but it's not great. It's enjoyable if you wanna spend the afternoon reading something.

3 stars, ''i liked it, but''

I can respect that this novella was the catalyst to the utopia/dystiopian stories we love today however I just couldn't get into the storytelling and flow. I must say I much preferred the last third to the other bits but it felt like slugging through to get to it. Alas, now I can say I read it.

An excellent trip. Time Travel as a concept will probably never get old. This book was written more than a century ago and it still evokes that sense of wonder in the reader.
