The mystery as to Lincoln March's identify was uninteresting but the rest was solid.

While the Mr. Freeze story wasn't amazing it was still decent enough. The opening is great build up to the "big" fight and DAMN is it a big fight. Talk about scope and brutal fist fights, this was one of the best I've read. On top of that Alfred gets a great back story about his father. Overall, another solid entry and it's making me glad I finally tried a DC title.

I was really underwhelmed by this volume. It was the payoff of the first volume's buildup and the climax of the Court of the Owls storyline. I just don't like these villains. More than that, this whole scenario is so unbelievable. After what Bruce went through in Volume 1, even though he's Batman, I just can't believe that he's able to do everything that happens in this one night. Add to that contrived and repeated plot devices, and you just wind up with something not that great.

Then there's the characters themselves. You see almost no one other than Batman and he just comes off as a jerk. Yeah he's protective and whatnot, but just harsh. He's not likable, even in the typical Batman manner. The villains are bland and undeveloped. The supporting cast is absent and unimpressive. I just really didn't find anything that drew me in. I was surprised in the last volume how it was able to turn around and actually pull me in, and was hoping to have something similar this time.

The one thing that didn't fall short was the art. This stuff is gorgeous. Unfortunately, there were multiple artists that had varying styles and levels of talent. Overall, though, it was a gorgeous book.

The next volume is Death of the Family. I gotta read that one, but it might be Batman's last chance to really win me over.

The Court of Owls storyline did not disappoint. I loved that it introduced a new antagonist, which I was skeptical about at the start. Snyder has done an amazing job with it though and it has to be one of my favorites to date. I really liked what they did with Freeze in the annual as well. If you are a Batman fan, this book (along with the first volume) is a must.

I'm a big Scott Snyder fan and once again I have really enjoyed his take on one of my all-time favorite masked heroes, the Batman.

Don't know where to start. I'm tempted to just say this was stupid and leave it at that. The ending felt insulting; after two volumes of drama and build, we got a big stupid battle in the sky against a hokey villain. It's like the author got bored with the project and left it to a team of assistants to bring it to a close. New 52 brought a lot of interesting updates, and I was prepared to continue with it, but this makes it hard. Two stars feels generous.
