I love this author I love everything she does. She writes dynamic compelling and nuanced characters as well as beautiful stories. And the way she chooses the present the books is amazing
4.5 I think this is the best that YA can get. The characters are so well realized and fit the richness of the world so perfectly that it’s hard to have any qualms. I do have a couple qualms (mainly issues with YA in general). I’m not in love with the recaps we’re given about each character at the start of the book (as if Maggie thinks I would forget who they are). The themes also hit you in the face somewhat bluntly, but it’s hard to complain when they leave an impact. Frankly, I love this, and I’ve been singing “blue lilly, lilly blue” in a weird Will Patton voice around my apartment for the past couple days.
“Desire and dread lay right next to each other in his heart, each sharpening the other.”
“And Ronan Lynch looked like Niall Lynch, which was to say, he looked like an asshole.”
“Now he could see it wasn’t charity Gansey was offering. It was just truth.”

Continuing on in my reread, as a whole I think this is the weakest book in the series so far, but still a lot happens and it fantastically pushes the characters to the upcoming ending. It continues the themes of character growth and coming of age and sets up many threads to be tied off in the conclusion coming up.
