slow-paced
Just vibes and meandering, really. But if you're on the third book of a series there's a good chance you're into the vibes and that's ok. The Piper/Greenmantle thing- as some of the characters become more real and nuanced I guess background characters that are broad-stroke ideas have to be rotated in yeah?
All I know is… I’m going to have to grieve these characters when this series is over.

Hey guys! Did you know that Blue is short? 😀 She’s actually super tiny! 😀 She’s sooooo small! 😀 She’s like, teeny tiny! 😀 Super petite! 😀 Basically microscopic!! 😀 It’s important to remind you of how short she is every other chapter, lest you forget! 😀
Somehow, the fact that Blue is small was more clear than the plot of this damn book. Idek what happened and I’m only finishing the series for completionist’s sake. 🥱
This feels like a filler book, which is crazy, because not much happened in book 1, and even less happened in book 2. 💀💀💀 At this point, I’m wondering if the interesting things that this series is allegedly about (the hunt for the Welsh King + Blue’s kiss curse + Gansey’s imminent death) are ever gonna progress, or if this entire series is simply filler.
The “plot” of this book is about this random man (Greenmantle) who I didn’t care about at all. There’s also Persephone and the weird magical cave, and those could’ve been interesting, but tbh I’ll forget about them in 2 days. The fact that these underwhelming villains keep getting introduced and quickly defeated makes it hard for me to care about, or feel threatened by them. 🫤🫤🫤
I also couldn’t bring myself to care much about Blue’s mum, because it seemed like the characters weren’t that invested in finding her lmaoooo. Overall, the plot was super underwhelming and forgettable.
The characters continue to be endearing, but, I’m not gonna lie, I feel like the only reason I care about them is because they’re ~ tumblr royalty ~ . Like, if I hadn’t been familiar with them for over a decade, I probably wouldn’t care about them that much. 😐 Also, Blue keeps on *not shining*, even when the it’s her own mother in danger. I wanted to love her, but alas, she continues to feel secondary.
I continue to not love the audiobook, but I will keep listening to it as background noise while I draw, because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to get through this slog. Hoping that the FINAL BOOK finally develops the plot points that were setup AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE SERIES. 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

I love these kids so much, and the slow burn between Blue and Gansey is killing me. Probably my least favourite entry in the series, but it was interesting nonetheless.
