While I understand the intention behind this book and what it's trying to convey, it does so through so narrow of a lens it's downright disrespectful. With a minor exception, these women identify as white, cisgender and heterosexual, with descriptions of sexual desires that only differ in their minutae, and always come back to whatever man they are "in love" with. There's very little attempt to unpack the abuse (mainly emotional, but borderline physical) done to them or the systems of patriarchy that led to this, in favor of in depth descriptions of intimate encounters with, again, one, maybe two guys. It made me both angry and not a good enough woman, which is a new low.

Very weird that this book was marketed as a book about women’s sexual desire! It’s more about surviving rape, and being coerced into sexual situations these women actually didn’t enjoy, being manipulated and controlled, and the way women’s sexuality is turned against them. I liked the book itself but it’s pretty messed up that it’s framed as about desire, like what was the goal with that? And just by nature of it being only about three women, it can’t even come close to encapsulating women’s sexualities and desires so idk!

this is a non fiction but kinda written as fiction, especially maggies story. i feel like this book gives a realistic picture of what women go through in misogynistic society, where people doesn't support other women whom often are victimized by men and other women. my blood boils reading maggie experience and how she doesnt have a happy ending, which is realistic and exactly why it pisses me off so much. i love the prologue, it rlly gives a nice start and depicts what women experience but tbh disappointed in the way she told maggie s story and the epilogue. feels like she couldve done more and analyze more about feminism, misogyny, and desires.
