Haven't read a decent romance novel in a while. It did seem they were quite all over the place, but then again they are teenagers and they area ll over the place in like 90% of the time. Overall I enjoyed the read, this had been on my TBR pile for ages. Didn't regret that it was there and finally managed the time to read through it. Sweet story with a lot of fuck up things beneath, but can't judge damage that we collect through time.

This was a nostalgic re-read.

I see every flaw and every bit of angst, but the scenes and emotions are so real and genuine, and so I think of Josh and Sky every once in awhile. It made an impact on my younger self, so here we are.

I love the slow burn of their relationship, and the trauma Josh has to deal with. Everything just sorta fit together here for me, hence why I re-read this probably once a year or once every 2 years.

Happy reading, Goodreads fiends.

An emotional story of a recent high school graduate wanting to get out of her dead-end town who reconnects with her former co-worker, a combat veteran who just returned from war after losing a leg.

Although the novel addresses a wide range of topics that typically drive a plot (PTSD, young love, alcoholism, and teen pregnancy, among others) it is less action-driven and more about the emotional development of the characters.

I disagree with reviewers who criticized some of the offensive vocabulary Josh uses-- it's one way that Demetrios makes her characters feel so REAL. (We can't always like every decision a character makes!)

This book is a good recommendation for YA or New Adult/Crossover fiction readers, although I'd use caution with younger teens due to the language and sex in the book.

So beautiful. That's all I can really say about this book: utterly, irrevocably beautiful. The characters are amazing, the romance is astounding and realistic, and the problems each of the characters face are very real to today's society.

I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a nice contemporary with a little angst and a lot of love.

MEH.
I didn't care for any of the characters.
Sky is dumb.
Josh is dumber.
Really, gay jokes?
Stop with the bad parents trope, I need good parents on books for once.
And the war thing was handle very badly in my opinion. But maybe it was my fault for reading a book about an 'american' soldier.

I should have trust my instinct and DNF this thing. :/ Oh well.

I really enjoyed this! The frank look at living in poverty and the friendships were the highlight of the story for me, although the focus was much more on the romance and coping with the aftermath of war. Great imagery and heartfelt scenes without being overwritten.
