So glad to have found this cozy little series and happy to see another one is coming out later this year! I like that the locations and cast of characters continues to branch out because it keeps the series from getting too stale.

I listened to this book in audiobook form and did like it. My rating is 3.25 stars. I agree with some of the other reviews that I missed Shady Hollow. I feel like this book focused a lot on dialogue and characters and a lot less on the cozy aspect. I read this series for the coziness. One thing I did like is that I didn’t know who the killer was until about the 88 percent mark which is better than some of the other books in this series.
There were mentions of food but less description about them than normal and there was also not as detailed of descriptions of the surroundings, which made the book feel less atmospheric. I definitely would have enjoyed this more if there had been more of that in the story.
I did like the narrator, at first I couldn’t stand the way she made Lenore’s voice but over time I got used to it. I am planning on picking up the next book in this series, I just hope that eventually one of these main books is more of a 4 star read instead of a 3. I have given 4 stars to both short stories so I know it can be done. The reason I enjoyed those books so much was because of how atmospheric and cozy they were!

I adore the Shady Hollow Mystery series. I will say this was my least favorite of the series. The main reason being I missed hearing about so many of the characters I have grown to love. I thought it was great they introduced us to new characters, but felt there were too many and it was difficult to really get to know them. That said, the story was still everything I love about this series. Light hearted, sweet, full of whimsy…while still solving a mystery!

We follow Vera and Lenore to Summers End where, inevitably, the two friends get caught up in murder, intrigue, and a vast criminal network. A fan of the series will be happy to know that the hallmarks are all there - general coziness, nice descriptions of food, and a mystery that is twisty but also plays fair with the reader. To be honest, I'm never very good at figuring out the killer/criminal, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my suspicions were correct. Now, what's new and notable for this entry? 1) A change of scenery - it's fun to see Vera negotiate a community where the creatures don't already know and trust her. 2) A deepening and expansion of the world in the archaeological site. I appreciate that the authors are taking the time to color in details and history. 3) Perhaps the glimmer of a long term villain/criminal syndicate? Maybe? We'll have to see in future installments!
I received an ecopy from the publishers and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
