This book read like a fairy tale bedtime story. I thought that the narrative was fun and creative. Even though I wasn't glued to the story, I was definitely curious to see how it turned out. However, there was not enough depth to the story and characters to truly draw me in. For a fun short read, this book was pretty good.

a medival romance, young adult, a little obvious, a young lady's story as she bargains with death to save her life through the stories she tells

I was a little disappointed in the writing, to be honest. It was trying too hard to be serious and dark and reflective; but I still was able to enjoy the book very much. And, taken as just a fairy tale, it's a good story. Interesting idea.

This is my go to book that I listen to on audible.

Beautiful writing, wonderful plot, and a memorable story.

Wonderful, spotless, potent, and powerful. From page one, you will fall under Lord Death's enchantment and feel his pain and sorrow. When Keturah's time comes he does not want to take her life, but yearns for true love, just like her. This book was just absolutely magnificent, and shows you that true love really does extend past the grave...

Great historical romance. The character grows so much on the journey and you really watch her fall in love. At times, I couldn't entirely tell what she was feeling, which is an odd feeling when you are reading from a first-person point of view. Otherwise it was a nicely-paced, different kind of fairy tale.

“I felt my life grow heavier in my arms until I could not hold it anymore.”

Is this an HEA? Arguably no.
Should you read it? Absolutely yes.

This is the type of book that makes you want to be silent for a while after finishing it. However, that wouldn’t make for a very good book review. So, I’ll be brief.

The prose is haunting. The vibes are immaculate. The FMC’s perspective is at once bright & grim. The whole concept is oxymoronic: a melancholic & heartwarming read. Yet, here we are. I don’t think it’s on accident as, after all, “she knew it was Death who sweetened the apples”.

I was most surprised by the side quests & side characters. They’re all quite well developed and the HEA for her closest friends were an unexpected delight. There is definitely the classic every-boy-wants—the-YA-fantasy-FMC but it’s fine just ignore it.

This is a thoughtful & quiet story. I loved every minute of it. I’m so glad I stole a moment away from my long list of dark romance & monster smut to make room for this tale of death.

Reread:
Reading this filled me with just...plain appreciation for life and love and wow. Everything about this. I can't even put it into words. I'll be thinking about the last page before the coda forever. This book reminds me of how beautiful it is to be alive.

First read:
This story has the makings of a classic and reads like a fairytale. Everything about it was so sweet?? I don't think i've ever read something so enrapturing. Keturah and Death are literally perfect and this book gives me life.
