This book was a solid 4-star read until about 3/4 of the way through. Then it just kinda... ended. A major event (I mean, someone almost dying horribly) is memory-erased and nobody remembers it at all, including the girl who was almost murdered. Major plot-lines were never resolved, such as one character being really concerned about outing herself as trans to her friends and several situations that led to it *almost* being revealed, and then nothing happens and everyone is happy. Disappointing.

3.5 but rounding up. Very cute, and it had a nice twist at the end.

Thank you to NOVL for sending me an ARC of this book for Couchfest 2020! This is my honest review:

This book has the same energy as a poorly written CW teen show. It wasn’t terrible, it was a very fast read, it had a good concept and an interesting and diverse cast of characters, but the plot and the story fell completely short. While I appreciate the inclusivity of the main characters (Black trans representation and sensory processing disorder/general anxiety disorder representation), Own Voice narratives are always going to be a better portrayal of underrepresented groups. Another thing was that this book felt very juvenile to me, almost like a middle grade book.

Unfortunately I could not get into this one. I read about 60 pages but it just wasn't working for me.

I'm so sad

B*witch had an interesting concept, and I appreciated the themes of diversity and sisterhood. I especially enjoyed Iris' journey with her anxiety disorder. *However*, there is a lot that fell short with me.

First, the number of characters and POVs were a little too much. I couldn't tell whose story we were truly following. A lot of the beginning was repetitive in each POV. There wasn't a clear enough direction to really drive the plot in the beginning, imo. The main inciting incident isn't really clear? Was it the death of the minor character that no one cared about? Because if so, it happened almost midway through the book.

Additionally, I actually was enjoying the ending before the anticlimactic plot twist happened and made everything feel lackluster. I think the authors had good intentions with their twists, but they failed to keep the excitement up in the last few pages of the book.

Overall, this was a quick read, but it could definitely use some work. I think it would do better with a more solid direction in order to have a clearer narrative.

Thanks to NOVL for sending me this ARC after Couchfest!

The writing style makes me want to rip my eyeballs out (respectfully)
Also the metaphore with the witches being oppressed isn't exploited properly
