A must-read for police and prison abolitionists and reformers, the authors make it abundantly clear why common "kinder" alternatives to prison are really two steps back for the work of creating a compassionate society. Their argument is straight-forward and very well supported: we should be working to reduce the number of humans who are punished and confined, not expand the prison system using another name.

Everyone should read this book. It's so thorough and detailed, and also has a long section at the end for what we *can* do. Very very helpful.
