I should've dnf-ed this book when Whit upended Inez's suitcase on the floor after asking to marry her. In the prologue.

But no, I continued reading because I wanted answers. The romance plotline ended well enough, but the rest? There's only so much betrayal you can write into a duology until it gets utterly boring.

I enjoyed the first book in this duology more than this follow-up, but it was a fun series overall! I loved the historical elements and the exploration. The dynamic between Whit and Inez was one of my favorite parts of the first book. Their banter!

Loved this book! The twists and turns were so unexpected and caught me off guard. I wish the first book had been this captivating from start to finish!

This book pretty much abandoned the adventure storyline and dove headfirst into heavily clichéd romance. My boredom outweighed my curiosity just a few chapters in. Folks who like straight romantasy probably won't mind, but this just wasnt the right book for me.
