Absolutely great sequel and conclusion to this duology! Pacing was amazing, the characters are lovely, and the yearning is top tier!!! Had me tearing up empathizing with Inez and her torment over whit. I loved having more POV time for both protagonists. I was less annoyed with Inez naivety but there was some moments I was like girl come on obvi that’s a snake. But overall loved the book!

This book was so much better than the first one, but at the same time I felt very conflicted when reading it. One second I love the character, the next second I hated a character, and to be quite honest I was tired of flip-flopping to either side.
When it comes to the storyline itself, I enjoyed it. I love that. It’s a continuation of Inez in Egypt, trying to find her mother and her family that she may or may not know.

I just didn’t get into it. I found the miscommunication annoying and the “doing it my way” foolishness. Maybe I’ll try again but the main characters are immature and annoying

In this sequel to What the River Knows, we join Inez and Whit on more adventures in Egypt. I hate to say this, but I was not a fan. The plot was convoluted. Our characters are inconsistent at best, frustrating and annoying at worst. My main gripes about Inez and Whit from the first book still stand true. Inez is supposed to be this independent, fierce, stubborn woman. Yet she is too impulsive, naive, and trusting to be that strong, solid character.. Whit isn't any better. Is he just a gold digger? Though he professes his love for her, I don't feel it. Our main couple has ZERO chemistry. Zilch. Nada. None. The plot twists made me cringe. The commentary about colonization and ownership of artifacts seemed to fizzle out. White people win? Yuck. The whole thing was a slog. Not even the ending and epilogue could save it. If it wasn't for the fact that it was an audiobook, I probably would have DNFed it. The narrators were great, and I was able to keep listening because of them. I completed a series, and that is probably the one positive I derived from this experience.
