This was my first experience with The Secret Garden, and I loved it to bits!

Gotta admit this was one from my childhood that I just didn’t love as an adult. Maybe it was the audio of the one that I listened to but it was tough to get past the privileged whining of Mary and general attitude of Colin. (I get that they have hardships but man do they just come off as brats for most of the book.) I mean, it’s great that the garden’s “magic” sorta fixes them I guess but it took an awful lot to get there. As a kid I think I loved it mostly because I loved the *idea* of a secret garden. As an adult it’s tougher to get through the main characters to enjoy it - except Dickon, he’s obviously cool and would be a fun hang.

How did I not read this as a kid!? It was wonderful. My daughter and I read a little bit each day together and loved it. I read with accents which was very fun.
