I started this thinking I knew the basic storyline, but the more I read the more I realized I didn’t know anything lol. I guess I was imagining something more like Barbie and the Secret Door, or that garden party book (I forget the title) about the ugly girl who gets turned into a dandelion. But this was a book about childhood, friendship, and nature healing people.
Aside from the random racist comments (which weren’t important to the story and probably got taken out later but my copy was from 1999), and the fact that it takes a little while to pick up, this story is really so beautiful. It still holds a great message for children and people of all ages.
