The language came as a shock at the beginning. The book is from 1911 and it shows as it's description about India and Indians is really racist. But otherwise the tale and the way it describes the impact of neglect and the impact of love feels timeless.

Although I felt the ending dragged on a little too long and then wrapped up a little too quickly, this is a very sweet story. It's simple and magical, easy to understand but with some important reminders about life.
