Oh yeah, okay, this one is genuinely charming and lovely. Love the gradual transformation of the main characters, gently and considerately done so that it feels so real. A proper pleasure (especially as I had gardening to do on the sunny balcony!)

Los libros infantiles ingleses de esa época son tremendos y este no lo es menos. Un clásico.

Never have I been so ambivalent on a book. On the one hand, this book touched all my sweet spots, on the other hand all of it could have been easily construed as repetitive, trite sentimentalism. Not to mention, Burnett does not even bother to use a little subtlety to cover her up the blatant new agey Christianity. The question is if we are ready to forgive her all of this for a good story: for the most part I am, at the expense that I feel somewhat disgusted at myself that I occasionally buy into such sentimentalism. Like reading Jane Eyre without the quality. For discerning readers, I'd only recommend it for the beautiful evocations of the environment of Yorkshire.

I loved this story as a child and was excited to read to my daughter. I loved the garden and nature elements, the Magic and fresh air, friendship and good thoughts all making them healthy.
I didn't like the racism, and excessive focus on Mary being ugly but because I was reading out loud I could skim or rephrase parts. Of it's time but maybe I'd pick a modernised version to let my child read herself.
As always we adore the MinaLima editions! Stunning!!

This book really embodies everything that is the brightness, freshness, and renewal of springtime. It was an endearing and humorous story about two obstinate and unlikeable children who slowly grow into curious and empathetic individuals. Some aspects didn’t age well, which isn’t necessarily surprising but is definitely worth noting.
