This novel is a classic. I could have done without the racism
early on in the book and the ableism throughout, but the book is over 100 years old so I go into books of that age knowing I will encounter those themes.
It’s beautifully written, and I like the aspects of the effect of positive thinking. The audiobook is absolutely beautifully done. The recording is beautiful and the narrator is incredible. 4.75 out of 5.
Moderate: Ableism, Racism
This book is over 100 years old, so there is some racism and ableism.

Absolutely my favourite children's book. The story is so heartwarming and simple, but yet there are so many things beneath the surface. The description of nature and the garden giving life to the two children really moved me. Even the preachy ending is forgivable, entrenched in a heavily moralistic Victorian world - it's like a window into a forgotten world, a forgotten view of things.
Anyway, I just really like it.

The Secret Garden is one of the most delightful books I've read. It is vivid and filled with stunning imagery. It approaches serious topics like death and illness with gentleness. It has lovable characters, beautiful phrases and sentences, and subtle wisdom weaved into the paragraphs. One character I wish to meet in real life is Mother a.k.a Mrs Susan Sowerby. She's gentle, and wise, and warm. The Secret Garden is a book I wish I could read for the first time, again.
