informative lighthearted fast-paced

I had a lot of fun reading this one. The author has a good sense of humor, and while she has an obvious stance on animal treatment/studies/extinction, she doesn't beat you over the head with it.

Loved the different animal myths, but I also liked that it explained where they came from and how (to the best of our knowledge) they were perpetuated and, for the most part, debunked.

Would recommend for anyone looking for some lighter, science oriented nonfiction.

It's strange to give non fiction star ratings but if you wan to learn more about animals in a fun way, this book is for you.
I have a lot of fun facts about the animals after reading this and I really enjoyed this book. But also enjoy learning myths and facts about animals so this was just great.

I had this on my shelves for five years and now I'm very glad I finally go to it.

The bestest everest!

“We are an insecure species, seeking reassurance about our behaviour from drunk moose and busy beavers, and quick to condemn those creatures that don't conform to our moral code like indolent sloths, cruel hyenas and dirty vultures. Our discomfort with the truth about these animals reveals a great deal about our hopes as well as our fears.”

It was a slow start, but after the first couple of chapters I really began to enjoy it. The author makes several good points, and I snorted out loud a handful of times, which is usually a good sign.

Can not wait to see if she bring out another one. Captivating in ever chapter and very educational in a fun weird fact kind of way.

Wholly entertaining book. Fabulous witty humor with funny, interesting stories and facts about the slighted creatures of the animal kingdom. An animal per chapter, she includes chimps, sloths, hippos, frogs, vultures and more. Highly recommended!

Hands-down the most enlightening and entertaining piece of nonfiction I've read since Mary Roach's "Stiff." Nearly every paragraph had me gasping, laughing or scrambling to share a newly discovered, weird animal fact with anyone who would listen. For me, the mark of a good nonfiction book is how frequently I find myself reading passages aloud to my husband -- and I got to a point where I had to stop reading it when he wasn't home because I spent the whole time marking sections that I needed to share when he returned. Poor guy probably had to listen to me read a good quarter of the book aloud.

Highly recommend this to anyone who loves animals, appreciates clever prose and sarcastic turn-of-phrase, or just wants to be able to share random facts about sloth metabolism or penguin sex at your next cocktail party.
