What a beautiful meditation on the inevitability of death. Acceptance doesn’t lessen the pain, but it may help us embrace the fullness of the human experience.

I thought his wife’s epilogue was better than the rest of his memoir.
I can see understand why readers find Kalanithi’s life and book to be especially meaningful, but I found his writing to be pretentious and arrogant. While I feel terrible for him that he was diagnosed and died from a terminal illness, I couldn’t connect to his message and I did not feel moved by life story.

The way Paul wrote about his journey with cancer is beautiful.
If anyone has lived with a terminal or permanent illness, they will understand the feeling of not knowing what they should do next. Suddenly life feels dreadful, and vivid, and beautiful, and also out of reach.
I wrote this review as lying down on hospital bed. I have been admitted to hospital 3 times within a month. I had so much time that I decided to read this book again and again. I love how Paul told the story about how he began his medicine study and how passionate he was with life. His writing made the book relatable and also so intriguing.
I don’t really write reviews unless I really like the book or I really hate the book. I have to say that I would recommend this book to everyone if they ever ask me to.
Thank you, Paul, as a beautiful soul and a passionate doctor.

A phenomenal book. The first thing that caught my attention about this book is the title. It is a GORGEOUS title that invokes a lot of feelings and thoughts. I loved being in Kalanithi’s mind and understanding his thought process on not just about his unique position of doctor/patient but also religion, human life, family, love, etc. He is so intelligent and tenacious. This book definitely made me cry. I will be purchasing this book just so I can annotate it and read it over and over again.
